Scope of NCRI's reporting

One of the core functions of NCRI is to monitor cancer patterns in Ireland and provide data for research, health planning and service improvement.

NCRI data is a vital tool for monitoring the effectiveness of cancer care at a population level, facilitating improvements in clinical delivery systems, and ultimately enhancing patient outcomes through evidence-based reporting.

It is important to note however, NCRI has no direct role in service delivery, clinical care or quality monitoring within a clinical setting.

Clinical Care

NCRI collaborates with private and public hospitals and clinics to ensure comprehensive and accurate data collection on cancer cases. By sharing information and insights, NCRI helps healthcare providers plan cancer services and improve patient care based on the latest cancer trends and outcomes.

Data Quality and Reporting

Data accuracy is dependent upon the quality of data available to NCRI. NCRI continually improve and enhance the completeness and accuracy of data where additional data becomes available to support this.

Given the nature of NCRI data, we do not investigate, analyse or report on individual patient cases. Rather, NCRI will provide summary data to hospitals, institutions and relevant public bodies, regarding patient diagnoses and treatments. Such data allows these organisations to complete comprehensive investigations and service reviews.

Reports and findings from NCRI inform policymakers about the effectiveness of current cancer care delivery systems and guide the development of targeted interventions aimed at addressing identified weaknesses.

Research

NCRI aims to be a leading source of cancer data and research, driving improvements in cancer detection, prevention, treatment and outcomes. The focus of NCRI research is to inform policy and develop practical solutions for healthcare challenges, with the primary goal of reducing the cancer burden and improving patient outcomes.
