This report provides an overview of cancer of the liver and biliary tract in Ireland since 1994. The liver is one of the less common sites of digestive tract cancer, accounting for 0.8% of all cancers (excluding non-melanoma skin) in 2007. Since 1994, there has been a considerable increase in the number of liver cancers registered in Ireland, by about 10% annually in women and 8% in men.
