News from the Director's Office this month is sadly bidding farewell to Maria Duane. Maria is a registered nurse who came to NCRI after years of nursing experience in the USA. She has been a Cancer Data Registrar at NCRI since its founding and has made a massive contribution to cancer registration in Ireland. It is, however, not just her expertise and knowledge that we will miss, it’s her warmth and spirit. Maria is an animal lover and avid gardener. Those of us who are also animal lovers always enjoy a chat with her about our animal companions. Many of us have also been lucky enough to share in the bounty of her garden – amazing flowers or yummy fruit and veg. Maria always has a smile and warm greeting to share.
Maria’s retirement is bittersweet as her expertise will be sorely missed and hard to replace yet we're happy to know she’ll soon have time for all her other interests. It has been a pleasure to work with Maria and we wish her well in the next phase of her life – Godspeed
